모차르트 어록(語錄) - 모차르트가 한 말을 나중에 모차르트 전기작가들이 정리한 것 중에서 일부를 소개함.

 

모차르트의 또 다른 초상화

 

- 사람이 웅변적으로 말을 잘하여 남을 설득 한다는 것은 마치 위대한 예술과 같다. 하지만 언제 자기의 말을 그쳐야 할지를 아는 것도 똑 같이 중요하다. ([T]o talk well and eloquently is a very great art, but that an equally great one is to know the right moment to stop.)

 

- 지능이 높거나 상상력이 풍부하다고해서 천재가 되는 것은 아니다. 사랑은 천재를 만드는 핵심이다. (Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.)

 

- 남들이 나에 대하여 찬사를 퍼붓던 비판을 하던 나는 상관하지 않는다. 나는 다만 나의 감정을 따를 뿐이다. (I pay no attention whatever to anybody's praise or blame. I simply follow my own feelings.)

 

- 죽음이란 것을 심각하게 생각하는 것은 우리가 존재하는 참된 목적이다. (As death, when we come to consider it closely, is the true goal of our existence . . .)

 

- 나는 내가 마차를 타고 어디를 가던지, 식사를 잘 한 후에 산책을 하던지 또는 밤중에 잠을 이룰수 없을 때가 바로 가장 훌륭하고 풍부한 아이디어가 생기는 때이다. (When I am . . . traveling in a carriage, or walking after a good meal, or during the night when I cannot sleep; it is on such occasions that ideas flow best and most abundantly.)

 

- 아무리 무섭고 두려운 경우에 처하더라도 음악은 우리의 귀에 어떠한 고통도 주지 않는다. 대신에 기분을 좋게하고 매력적으로 만든다. 그것이 음악이다. (Music, even in situations of the greatest horror, should never be painful to the ear but should flatter and charm it, and thereby always remain music.)

 

- 주께서 나처럼 비천하고 어린아이와 같이 연약한 자를 위해 고통을 당하시고 마침내 죽으셨다는 것을 생각하면 커다란 위안이 된다. 주께서는 나를 사랑과 긍휼함으로 돌보아 주시고 계신다. (It is a great consolation for me to remember that the Lord, to whom I had drawn near in humble and child-like faith, has suffered and died for me, and that He will look on me in love and compassion.)

 

- 주께서는 나에게 귀중한 기회를 주시었다. 죽음이란 진정한 행복으로 들어가는 문을 여는 열쇠라는 것을 알게 해준 기회였다. 참으로 감사한 일이다. (I thank my God for graciously granting me the opportunity... of learning that death is the key which unlocks the door to our true happiness.)
