가장 감동을 주는 오페라의 러브 듀엣 3

○ O Soave fanciulla

자코모 푸치니의 '라 보엠'(La Bohème) 1막에서 로돌포와 미미의 사랑의 듀엣 O Soave fanciulla(오 사랑스런 아가씨): 오페라에 나오는 러브 듀엣 중에서 가장 유명한 곡이다. 사실상 로돌포와 미미의 사랑의 듀엣은 로돌포가 어두운 방에서 바닥에 떨어진 열쇠를 찾다가 미미의 차가운 손을 만지게 되면서 시작한다. 그래서 로돌포가 '그대의 찬손'(Che gelida mania)을 부르면 이어서 미미가 '내 이름은 미미'(Mi chiamano Mimi)를 불러 로돌포의 사랑의 손길에 화답한다. 그리고 마침내 두 사람의 사랑하는 마음은 '오 사랑스런 아가씨'로서 클라이막스에 이르게 된다. 이 세 단계가 모두 러브 듀엣에 포함되는 것이다. 사랑의 요소인 감미로움과 부드러움, 그리고 열정이 모두 이 노래에 녹아 들어 있다. 아름다운 곡이다. 피날레에서 두 사람이 하이 C를 부르며 밖으로 걸어 나가는 장면이 너무나 인상적이다.

○ Mario! Mario!

자코모 푸치니의 '토스카'(Tosca) 1막에서 플로리아 토스카와 마리오 카바라도시의 듀엣 Mario! Mario(마리오, 마리오): 이 노래는 러브 듀엣이면서도 드라마틱한 표현이 넘쳐 흐르는 곡이다. 주인공 두 사람의 성격을 있는 그대로 표현한 노래이다. 예술가로서 마리오의 책임감, 토스카의 꿈, 토스카의 질투심 등이 적당하게 그려져 있다. 그러나 무엇보다도 마리오에 대한 열정이 가득 넘쳐 있는 곡이다. 그리고 이 노래를 통해서 우리는 두 사람의 성격을 알수 있다. 토스카는 밀고 나가는 성격이고 마리오는 침착한 성격이다. 토스카가 계획을 세우면 마리오는 듣는 입장이다. 그러나 토스카도 질투를 하는 여인이다. 마리오는 그런 토스카를 대단히 숭고하고 웅대한 노래인 Quale occhio al mondo(세상의 어떤 눈도)로서 위로한다. 이 노래야 말로 푸치니의 노래 중에서도 가장 우아하고 가장 정열에 넘쳐 있는 노래라고 할수 있다. 우리는 '마리오, 마리오'에서 단순한 멜로디가 발전하여서 마침내 찬란한 듀엣으로 마무리되는 것을 볼수 있다. 듀엣이지만  두 사람간의 간단한 대사가 많이 나오기 때문에 대사라기 보다는 대화라고 볼수 있다. 중간에 아리아 성격의 토스카의 노래가 감동적이다.

○ Bimba dagli occhi pieni di malia

자코모 푸치니의 또 하나 걸작인 '나비부인'(Madama Butterfly) 1막에서 초초상과 핀커튼의 듀엣 Bimba dagli occhi pieni di malia(아름다운 그 눈, 이제는 나의 것): 푸치니는 그의 오페라를 통해서 위대한 사랑의 듀엣을 여러 곡이나 보여주었지만 거의 모두가 비극으로 끝난 사랑의 이야기이다. '나비부인'도 예외는 아니다. 핀커튼과 초초상이 결혼식을 올리고 나서 밤의 향기 속에서 사랑을 속삭이는 이 아름다운 듀엣도 결국은 초초상이 스스로 목숨을 끊어야 하는 비극의 서곡이라고 볼수 있다. 노래의 앞 부분은 핀커튼이 흥에 겨워서, 또는 진정으로 그런 마음이 생겨서 그런지 모르지만 초초상과의 사랑을 영원히 지키겠다고 약속하는 내용이며 이에 대하여 초초상도 핑커튼에게 전적으로 의지하는 내용이다. 후반부는 두 사람의 가속되는 열정을 표현한 것이다.
